About Artist:
Aline is local currently living near the beach in sunny White Rock. She is an avid art lover and has enjoyed drawing and sketching, mostly in black and white, for many years. A few years ago, while visiting a local gallery, she saw a wonderful painting by a Canadian artist. It was worked in the age-old "encaustic" method, which gave it a rich, buttery texture and bold bright colour. As usual she was "just looking" and regrettably didn't buy the piece, but was inspired to start painting. She painted several pieces using acrylic paint on canvas. Although she enjoyed this medium, it wasn't until she pulled a small case of Lyra wax paint from her art supply cabinet that the fun truly began. She melted the bright crayon like chunks into small pots (the kind you dip your lobster into) and started applying the wax onto canvas in small quick strokes. Aline was enthralled by the process and seduced by the rhythmic motion she fell into. The experience was enhanced by the wonderful smell of melted beeswax. "Precious One" and "Precious Two" were created. ENCAUSTIC literally means, "burning in". This art medium comes to us from ancient Greece. Beeswax is the oldest known pigment binder. Pigment is added to molten beeswax and applied to a surface (paper, canvas , stone, wood). The final treatment is the burning in which consists of passing a heat source over the surface, causing a fusing and bonding of the painting. It is a wonderful medium to create texture. Encaustic does not yellow over time, is unaffected by moisture and impervious to fading.
