About Artist:
Nancy is a passionate stroyteller, written or painted. The details, layer by layer, are critical. All of her 59 years have been totally immersed in art. At 3 she drew with blue crayon on her mother's white walls, circles that were bigh enoght to ste throught and expore the other side. Her first painting in Kindergarten was filled with rainbows expressly so she could use all the colours that her teacher put out in jars. Nancy earned a diploma in Textile Design in Toronto and then went on to journalism degree and a fine arts degree from the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. She loved the cold north enough to immerse herself into the lifestyle for 23 years, raising three kids without running water, butchering moose, puling 60 pound salmon from the Yukon River and picking gallons of wild berries to last the winter. She has taught and studied art in Alaska, all over Canada, Holland and England. She's been a graphic artist/illustrator, for a freelance writer, a bird-portrait artist and a geological draftsperson. Nancy is an Associate member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and managed that prestigious gallery on Granville Island for six years. She had been a major exhibitor in 53 shows and honoured with 22 awards since 1986.

Statement:
For the past few years Nancy has been working almost exclusively in watercolours. Unlike the watercolour pieces we are used to seeing, she employs an opaque method that enhances the details. Her imagery jumps for the paper. Her colour pattern harkens back to textile and the details harkens back to the storytelling. "If I cannot paint then I like to write - hate to write - and if not that, then talking about painting is fine too."
